INFORMATION

Because of his experiments, Dr. Crane inhaled a large amount of his own chemicals, in small increments over an extended period of time. Because of this, he started building up something of a tolerance to it, which is why he survived such a large dose at such a close range, in Batman's attack. Unfortunately, what had started as whispering voices came to the surface of Dr. Crane's mind, shattering it into two main parts. For now, however, Dr. Crane manages to keep them more or less under control.

Jonathan is the primary personality and is in control, more often than not. He is the one you'll likely meet, if you go in for a psychiatric appointment. He's cold, calculating, and ambitious, willing to do anything in order to achieve his goals. He feels he's superior to most people; more intelligent, craftier, even better looking. He's very aware of how attractive he is and knows that sometimes, you get more with a kind word and a coy look than with threats. He's able to smile pretty and be charming, if it means no one will take a closer look at what he's doing.

Scarecrow is the darker part of Crane's mind, the one we see the least. He is the Id, the basic part of him that wants what it wants when it wants it. While Dr. Crane is fascinated by the effects of fear on the mind, Scarecrow just likes to hear them scream. Crane puts the drugs in the water supply, Scarecrow stays to watch the city fall into chaos. Scarecrow is the one who takes over when Crane commits his murders (ie: running rampant through Gotham as it dissolves into chaos, at the end of Batman Begins). He's more impulsive, striking without thinking, running on pure vengeance.
